PRE-TREATMENT

Waste recovery and disposal treatment often need a preparation step. The aim of pre-treatment is to prepare the waste for recovery and/or disposal operations. Pre-treatment may be a single operation or the combination of several processes. It can be defined as the operations that lead to homogenisation of the chemical composition and/or physical characteristics of the waste. Pre-treatment produces an adapted waste, which is different from the initial waste, but not from the regulatory point of view. These operations may be located on the site of final treatment, on the waste production site or on a dedicated pre-treatment site.

PRE-TREATMENT FOR CO-PROCESSING

Pre-treatment for co-processing is a sequence of operations carried out in specialised facilities aiming at preparing specific industrial waste into substitution fuels and recovering raw materials, mainly in cement kilns.

ADVANTAGES OF PRE-TREATMENT

  • The chemical and physical qualities of the prepared substitution fuels and raw materials ensure :
    • environmental protection,
    • optimal recovery in the cement kiln,
    • preservation of cement quality.
  • The energy and mineral content of the prepared waste is stable and homogeneous
  • The physical form of pre-treated waste (liquid or fine solids) allows easy, safe handling and storage as well as optimal injection into the kiln
